The Baby Grand, as envisaged by William Zaiser in 1937. Zaiser was a master in cabinet art, with this diagram showing his idea for a ‘butterfly’ grand piano. This case is so-named because of the way the lid rises in two equal sections, hinged in the middle- just like the flapping wings of a butterfly. This detailed drawing captures the idea quite simply, giving us an insight into the way that measured accuracy meets with artistic expression in the cauldron of design.
